Regional Winners 2008

The twelve finalists of Enterprising Britain 2008 reflect a staggering diversity and depth of entrepreneurial innovation. All hoping to win the title of the most enterprising place in Britain, they are prime examples of how enterprise and entrepreneurs are changing the face of local communities across the UK.

Scotland - Heart of Hawick

Heart of Hawick is the winner of Enterprising Britain 2008 for Scotland. It is an arts and culture led regeneration project designed to make a substantial contribution to the social, cultural and economic regeneration of the town of Hawick and the wider Borders area of Scotland. 

Northern Ireland - The Ashton Community Trust

The Ashton Community Trust is the winner of Enterprising Britain 2008 for Northern Ireland. The North Belfast-based organisation has been at the centre of a physical and social regeneration of this deprived area. 

Wales - Menter Môn

Menter Môn is the winner of Enterprising Britain 2008 for Wales.  It is an engine for altruistic entrepreneurship in the Isle of Anglesey, providing a range of business, ICT and community enterprise support services, including financial support. 

North East - Tynedale Enterprise Network

Tynedale Enterprise Network is the winner of Enterprising Britain 2008 for the North East. The Network, which is made up of a group of organization supporting enterprise in the area, has been instrumental in highlighting Tynedale as an area of outstanding enterprise achievement.

North West - Furness Enterprise

Furness Enterprise is the winner of Enterprising Britain 2008 for the North West. The Cumbria-based organisation has been recognised for its success in inspiring a low-skill, low-wage, low-aspiration population to become enterprising.

Yorkshire & Humberside -The Scarborough Renaissance Partnership

The Scarborough Renaissance Partnership is the winner of Enterprising Britain 2008 for Yorkshire and Humberside.
In the last six years, the Partnership has linked the public, private sector and community together towards the common goal of transforming Scarborough from a declining seaside resort to a quality town by the sea with an optimistic future.

West Midlands - Herefordshire Council

Herefordshire Council is the winner of Enterprising Britain 2008 for the West Midlands. Working with partners such as the Federation of Small Business and the Learning and Skills Council, the Council’s vision is for Herefordshire to be a place where people and, businesses  work together to bring about sustainable prosperity and well being for all, without damaging the outstanding natural environment in the county.

East Midlands - BioCity Nottingham Ltd

BioCity Nottingham Ltd is the winner of Enterprising Britain 2008 for the East Midlands. The Nottingham based organisation has been recognised for its success in inspiring a low-skill, low-wage, low-aspiration population to become enterprising.

East of England - UK Centre for Carnival Arts

The UK Centre for Carnival Arts (UKCCA), based in Luton, is the winner of Enterprising Britain 2008 for the East of England. Ten years ago virtually no one could have imagined that one of the most underfunded and undervalued art forms could spark a cultural regeneration renaissance in one of the UK’s most disparate, diverse and deprived areas.

London - Wandsworth Youth Enterprise

Wandsworth Youth Enterprise Centre, a charity offering business incubation and education to young people, is the winner of Enterprising Britain 2008 for London.  Based in Tooting, Wandworth Youth Enterprise Centre (WYEC) has a 20 year track record of supporting young people aged 17-30 to develop their business ideas and start up their own businesses.

South East - Millbrook Technology Campus

Millbrook Technology Campus (MTC) is the winner of Enterprising Britain 2008 for the South East. This Southampton-based technology park is a shining example of how enterprise and innovation can bring social regeneration and opportunities that will impact on a community for years to come.

South West - Plymouth Chamber of Commerce

Plymouth Chamber of Commerce is the winner of Enterprising Britain 2008 for the South West of England, nominated by South West of England Development Agency.
